To a cooled (0° C.) solution of 1-benzhydryl-3-(3-methylbenzofuran-2-yl)azetidine (52.0 mg, 0.147 mmol) in DCM (4 mL) under N2 was added 1-chloroethyl chloroformate (18.0 μL, 0.167 mmol) and the reaction was stirred at rt under N2 for 4 h. Next, EtOH was added and the mixture was stirred under nitrogen at 50° C. for 21 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue triturated with Et2O (3×5 mL), yielding the title product (20.4 mg, 62%) as an off-white solid.
