A solution of 2-pyridylaminoacetaldehyde diethyl acetal (8.0 g.) in a mixture of acetic anhydride (30 ml.) and pyridine (30 ml.) was stirred for 4 hours at 80° C and allowed to stand for 12 hours at ambient temperature. The reaction mixture was post-treated according to a similar manner to that of Example 5 (a) (2) to give oil of N-acetyl-N-(2-pyridyl)aminoacetaldehyde diethyl acetal (6 g.).
