To a solution of sodium hydroxide (120 mg, 3 mmol, in oil, 60% cont.) in anhydrous methanol (5 ml) was added tert-butyl mercaptan (0.406 ml). The mixture was stirred for 20 minutes at room temperature. The reaction mixture was concentrated dryness under reduced pressure. The obtained sodium isopropylmercaptan was dissolved in HMPT (2 ml). 1,3,5-trichlorobenzene (1) (1.8 g, 10 mmol) was added thereto. The mixture was stirred for 2 hours and 50 minutes at 80° C. The reaction mixture was poured into ice-water. The mixture was extracted with ethylacetate, washed with water, dried over sodium sulphate, filtrated and concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was chromatographed twice on silica gel (SiO2 15 g, elution: n-hexane) to yield the objective (4) (293 mg). Yield 41%.
