6-(Propionyl)-2-methyl-1,4-benzoxazin-3-(4H)-one (1.1 g) is stirred with a half equivalent of sodium borohydride in 30 ml of ethanol/THF 1:1 for three hours at room temperature. The mixture is poured onto water, extracted with ethyl acetate, the organic phase is dried with magnesium sulfate and concentrated by evaporation. A yield of 95% results.
