A solution of N-trifluoroacetyl-7-methoxy-4-methyl-1-methylene-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-3-benzazepine (1.39 g, 4.64 mmol) in ethanol (40 mL) was treated with 10% Pd/C (0.49 g, 0.46 mmol) and stirred overnight under an atmosphere of hydrogen. The product mixture was filtered through a pad of celite and silica and then concentrated. Flash chromatography (20% EtOAc in hexane, silica) resulted in 0.77 g of a clear oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3, mixture of rotamers) d 7.06 (m, 1H), 6.71 (m, 1H), 6.63 (m, 1H), 4.38 (bm, 1H), 3.8 (s, 3H), 3.6 (m, 1H), 3.25 (m, 1H), 3.18 (bm, 2H), 2.72 (m, 1H), 1.34 (m, 3H) 1.22 (m, 3H).
