Procedure

To a mixture of 8,9-dihydro-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-9-methyl-N-ethyl-8-oxo-2-phenyl-7H-purin-7-acetamide (0.83 g) obtained in Example 173 and dichloromethane (10 ml) is added a 1M solution of boron tribromide in dichloromethane (4 ml) at 0° C., and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for five days. To the reaction mixture is added water, and the precipitates are collected by filtration, washed with water, and recrystallized from ethanol and diisopropyl ether to give the desired compound (0.38 g).
