Procedure
5-Methyl-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-phenyl-1H-pyrrole-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester of Example 36 (4 mmol, 1.5 g) was dissolved in ethanol, and treated with 5% Pd/C (0.15 g). The mixture was hydrogenated with H2(g) at 45 psi. Upon completion of the reaction, the mixture was filtered through Celite, and the solvents removed under vacuum. Analysis of the resulting solid showed it was the named product (m.p. 181° C.-183° C.)
