Reaction Steps

9,9-Dichloro-9-silafluorene (1.1 g, 8.5 mmol) was dissolved in 80 mL of THF. To this solution was slowly added lithium 4-(3′,5′-di-t-butylphenyl)-2-isopropylindene (3.0 g, 8.5 mmol) as a dry powder and the solution was stirred overnight. After this time, the solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was the solvent was removed in vacuo and used as a crude product (3.9 g) for the next step.
