Acetyl chloride (5.71 mL, 6.30 g, 80.3 mmol) was added to a vigorously stirred suspension of 5-amino-6,7-dichloro-2,3-dimethoxyquinoxaline (Preparation 26, 20.49 g, 64.8 mmol) in toluene (500 mL) and the resulting mixture was heated under reflux for 2 hours. After being cooled, the product was collected by filtration, washed with toluene and dried by suction for 15 hours to yield 5-acetamido-6,7-dichloro-2,3-dimethoxyquinoxaline (20.49 g, 89%) as a beige solid.
