A solution of 5-(3-tert-butoxycarbonylamino-prop-1-ynyl)-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (2.06 g) and 10% Pd/C (1.03 g) in 50 mL MeOH was placed in a Parr shaker and was hydrogenated at 50 psi H2 for 16 h. The reaction was filtered through Celite® with the aid of MeOH and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound of Step B as a solid (1.93 g). MS 317 (M+18).
