N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) (0.178 g, 1 mmol), in one lot, was added to a stirred suspension of N-(3-methyl-5-isoxazolyl)-4-(4-methylphenyl)benzenesulfonamide (0.327 g, 1 mmol, Example 14b) in chloroform (12 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred for 10 min then diluted with dichloromethane (50 ml). This was washed with water (2×50 ml). The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The crude product was recrystallized using hexane/ethyl acetate giving N-(4-bromo-3-methyl-5-isoxazolyl)-4-(4-methylphenyl)benzenesulfonamide (350 mg, 86% yield, m.p. 153-156° C.).
