The product from Step A (6.91 g, 21.9 mmol) was suspended in methanol (50 mL). Sodium borohydride (829 mg, 21.9 mmol) was added in portions at 0° C., and the suspension was stirred until it became homogeneous (1 hour). The reaction was quenched by the addition of saturated aqueous ammonium chloride until hydrogen evolution ceased. The resulting precipitate was filtered and washed with water (2×25 mL) to provide the title product as a white solid which was sufficiently pure for use in the next step.
