A mixture of 3 g of 3-(2-methylphenyl)-1,2,4-thiadiazole-5-sulfonamide and 11 ml of trimethyl orthoisobutyrate was heated to reflux and stirred for 2 hours. The mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, whereupon a precipitate formed. Hexane was added and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes. The solid was filtered and washed with hexane and dried in vacuum (P2O5) to give 3.49 g of solid, m.p. 116°-118°.
