Procedure

A suspension of 105 g of 7-mercapto-5-methylpyrazolo-[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carboxylic acid in 400 ml of methylene chloride was treated with 6.3 ml of 1-chloro-N,N,2-trimethyl-1-propenamine and treated in an ultrasound bath until the majority has passed into solution. The mixture was suction filtered over a glass fiber filter, and ammonia was conducted into the clear filtrate at 20°. A crystalline precipitate formed which was filtered off under suction, dried and subsequently triturated in 100 ml of H2O for 5 minutes. The insoluble material was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated in a vacuum to half of the volume. Upon allowing to stand at 0°, there was obtained 7-mercapto-5-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carboxamide as the ammonium salt in the form of white crystals.
