7.20 g of methyl 5-mercapto-7-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]-pyrimidine-3-carboxylate were heated to 100° in 2N sodium hydroxide solution until almost all had dissolved. The solution was cooled, filtered and the filtrate was adjusted to pH 2. The product was filtered off under suction, washed with water and acetone and dried. There was obtained 5-mercapto-7-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-3-carboxylic acid of m.p. 225° (dec.).
