18 mL 4 mol/L aqueous sodiumhydroxide solution was added to 18.1 g (2,4,5-tribromo-imidazol-1-yl)-acetic acid methyl ester in 200 mL MeOH. The reaction was stirred 1 h at RT and evaporated. Water was added to the residue and the resulting mixture acidified with 1 mol/L aqueous HCL solution. The precipitate was filtered and dried to give 17.2 g desired product.
