Reaction Steps

To a solution of trans, trans-2,5-nonadien-1-ol (15 g) in chloroform (1500 ml) was added manganese dioxide (150 g). The reaction mixture was stirred for 20 hours at ambient temperature and then filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give a yellowish oily residue, which was subjected to a column chromatography on silicagel (developing solvent: chloroform). The fraction containing object compound was concentrated under reduced pressure to give colorless oily trans, trans-2,5-nonadienal (7 g).
