Procedure

42 g of 1-N-(dodecylaminocarbonyl)imidazole and 32 g of N-methyl-D-glucamine were suspended, under an inert atmosphere, in 400 cm3 of methanol. The reaction mixture was kept stirring at reflux for 4 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled with an ice bath and the precipitate was then filtered off. It was washed with 500 cm3 of water and then dried. 49 g (80% yield) of N-dodecylaminocarbonyl-N-methyl-D-glucamine were obtained in the form of a white powder.
