A suspension of 5-methylthio-1,2,4-triazole (6.19, 53 mmol) and chloromethyl ethyl ether (2.5 ml, 26 mmol) in toluene (40 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was chromatographed on silica by elution with ethyl acetate/diethylamine (95:5) to yield the title compound (1.1 g, 27%), as a colourless oil, which was characterised by
