To a solution of 3-Bromo-4-n-butylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde of Example 1(b) 1.87 g, 7.57 mmol) in toluene (35 mL) was added (PPh3)4Pd (0.30 g, 0.20 mmol), Na2CO3 (2 M, 9 mL), EtOH (25 mL) and (2-methoxymethoxy-4-methoxyphenyl)boronic acid (1.76 g, 8.30 mmol), respectively. The resulting mixture was stirred at reflux for 3 h. After quenching with water and extraction with EtOAc, the organic extract was washed with H2O, brine and dried (MgSO4). The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and column chromatography (silica gel, EtOAc/Hexane, 25:75) of the residue afforded the title compound as an oil (1.80 g, 71%)
