Procedure
10-bromo-2-ethoxycarbonylmethyloxy-5-(3-pyridylmethyl)-4H-pyrido[3,2,1-jk]carbazole-4-one (2 g) obtained in Example 5 was suspended in ethanol (100 ml), and to the suspension was added 1N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (20 ml), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 12 hours. After evaporate the solvent under reduced pressure, 4N sodium hydroxide and methylene chloride were added to the residue for phase separation. To the aqueous layer was added 4N hydrochloric acid to a pH of 6, and the precipitated crystals were recovered by filtration to obtain the title compound (1.8 g, 96%).
