Procedure
2-(5-acetoxymethyl-3-pyridylmethyloxy)-10-bromo-5-(3-pyridylmethyl)-4H-pyrido[3,2,1-jk]carbazole-4-one (200 mg) obtained in Example 24 was suspended in methanol (10 ml), and to the suspension was added an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (a solution prepared by dissolving 85 mg of sodium hydroxide in 0.8 ml of water), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The crystals precipitated were washed with methanol and ether in succession, and recovered by filtration to obtain the title compound (180 mg, 97%).
