Procedure
Prepared by the method described in Example 73 from 3-[2-(ethylamino)propyl]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-7,8-dimethoxy-5H-[1]benzopyrano[3,4-c]pyridin-5-one (10.0 g, 0.029 moles), sodium acetate (4.7 g, 0.058 moles), acetic acid (43.2 g, 0.72 moles), and sodium borohydride (5.9 g, 0.16 moles). Several recrystallizations from ethyl acetate/hexane yielded the product as the free base (2.3 g), mp 99°-100° C.
