2,4-diphenylthiopyrylium trifluoromethane sulfonate (2.0 g) and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (1.4 g) in ethanol (20 ml) were heated at 90° for 30 minutes. After cooling the solution was poured into ether (50 ml) and the precipitated dye was filtered, washed with ether and recrystallized from ethanol as black needles having a melting point of 233° C., λ max (CHCl3) 656 nm.
