3-amino-5-methoxy-2-nitrobenzoic acid (85; 1.6 g, 7.5 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (100 mL) and 10% Pd/C (300 mg) was added. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred under 1 atm of hydrogen at room temperature for 18 h. The reaction mixture was filtered through a pad of Celite and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 2,3-diamino-5-methoxybenzoic acid 86 (0.7 g).
