A solution of (S)-2-[3-(2-Benzenesulfonylphenyl)ureido]-3-(4-nitrophenyl) propionic acid methyl ester (3.64 g, 7.53 mmol) in ethanol (70 ml) was hydrogenated in the presence of a catalytic amount of Raney-Ni®. The catalyst was removed by filtration through Celite® and the solvent was eliminated under reduced pressure. The crude product was dissolved in dichloromethane (100 ml) and washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3 (3×50 ml). The organic layer was dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield the title compound (3.1 g, 91%) as a yellow solid.
