A mixture of 4-(4-bromophenyl)-1-(phenylmethyl)-4-piperidinol (0.23 mole) and Cu2O (2 g) in aqueous ammonia (500 ml) was stirred at 180° C. for twelve hours. The mixture was cooled, extracted with DCM and washed with water. The organic layer was dried, filtered off and evaporated, yielding 60 g of 4-[1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-1-(phenylmethyl)-4-pyridinyl]benzenamine.
