Reaction Steps
To a solution of the product of step 1 (232 mg; 0.64 mmol) in THF (6 mL) at 0° C. was added methyl magnesium bromide solution 3 N in Et2O (0.27 mL; 0.83 mmol) and the reaction was allowed to warm to room temperature for 1 h. The mixture was poured into saturated ammonium chloride, extracted with DCM, and dried over Na2SO4. After concentration of the solvents, the residue was purified by chromatography over silica gel (eluting Hexanes/EtOAc 8:2) to give 240 mg (100%) of 1-[1-(4-chloro-benzenesulfonyl)-6-phenyl-piperidin-2-yl]-ethanol as a ca 4.5:1 mixture of diastereoisomers.
