Procedure

To a solution of 4-methylbenzyl 4-({[3-(methoxycarbonyl)benzoyl]amino}methyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (EXAMPLE 540) (100 mg, 0.24 mmol) in MeOH (2 mL) was added sodium borohydride (0.18 mg, 4.7 mmol). The solution was stirred at rt for 2 h, quenched with saturated NH4Cl (aq) and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layer was dried over NaSO4, filtered and concentrated. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel (gradient elution, 2:1 hexane:EtOAc to EtOAc) to give 4-methylbenzyl 4-({[3-(hydroxymethyl)benzoyl]amino}methyl)piperidine-1-carboxylate.
