A solution of 36.4 mg (0.108 mmole) of (2S)-(+)-5-(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)-2-(trifluoromethyl)-2H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid in 1.5 mL of ethanol was treated with 1.07 mL of 0.1008N NaOH. The resultant mixture was lyophilized to provide 40.8 mg (quant.) of an off-white solid: MS (ES+) 337 (M+1, 100); 1H NMR (CD3OD/400 MHz) 5.84 (q, 1H, J=7.3 Hz), 6.43 (d, 1H, J=8.2 Hz), 6.70 (d, 1H, J=8.2 Hz), 6.99 (d, 2H, J=7.7 Hz), 7.12 (t, 1H, J=7.4 Hz), 7.17 (t, 1H, J=8.2 Hz), 7.35 (t, 2H, J−8.0 Hz), 8.55 (s, 1H); 19F NMR (CD3OD/400 MHz) 80.0 (d, 3F, J=7.7 Hz).
