A solution of 98.9mg (0.299 mmole) of 8-but-I -ynyl-6-chloro-2-(trifluoromethyl)-2H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid in 2.0 mL of ethanol was treated with 2.967 mL of 0.1008N NaOH. The resultant mixture was lyophilized to provide a quantitative yield of a yellow solid: 1H NMR (CD3OD/400 MHz) 1.22 (t, 3H, J=7.6 Hz), 2.44 (q, 2H, J=7.6 Hz), 5.88 (q, 1H, J=7.2 Hz), 7.17-7.19 (m, 2H), 7.32 (s, 1H).
