To a solution of the ester of Step 4 (1.5 g) in EtOH (15 mL) was added 1N KOH solution (13 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at reflux for 1 hour. The organic solvent was removed by evaporation and the aqueous solution was acidified with 3N HCl and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to give the title compound as a white solid (1.4 g).
