Procedure
To 28.0 g of 2-methoxy-6-(trans-4-propylcyclohexyl)naphthalene were added 280 ml of acetic acid and 280 ml of 48% hydxobromic acid. The reaction mixture was then heated under reflux for 12 hours. The reaction solution was then allowed to cool to room temperature. To the reaction solution was then added 500 ml of water to cause crystallization. The crystal thus precipitated was then filtered off. The crystal was washed with water, and then dried under reduced pressure to obtain 26.8 g of 6-(trans-4-propylcyclohexyl)-2-naphthol.
