Procedure

640 mg (1.4 mmol) of the alcohol obtained in Example 51, 2.50 g (28.7 mmol) of manganese oxide and 50 ml of dichloromethane are mixed together in a 500 ml round-bottomed flask. The reaction medium is stirred for twenty hours at room temperature, the manganese oxide is then filtered off and the dichloromethane is evaporated off. The residue obtained is purified by chromatography on a column of silica eluted with a mixture composed of 80% heptane and 20% ethyl acetate. After evaporation of the solvents, 90 mg (14%) of the expected compound are collected in the form of a white powder with a melting point of 120–122° C.
