Reaction Steps
To a 100-mL, round-bottomed flask containing 4-(4-tert-butyl-phenyl)-6-chloro-pyrimidine, (Example 1(a)), (0.15 g, 0.61 mmol) and 7-hydroxyquinoline (0.12 g, 0.85 mmol, Acros) in DMF (4 mL), was added NaH (34 mg, 0.85 mmol, 60% in mineral oil, Aldrich) at room temperature. The solution was then stirred at room temperature for 4 h. After the solvent was removed in vacuum, the residue was taken up in EtOAc (10 mL), and the organic layers were washed with water (8 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuum. Silica gel chromatography (3:1 hexanes/EtOAc) gave the title compound as a white solid. Mp: 133–135° C. MS (ESI, pos. ion) m/z: 356 (M+1). Anal. Calcd for C23H21N3O: C, 77.72; H, 5.96; N, 11.82. Found: C, 77.43; H, 5.99; N, 11.74.
