A solution of the enone 16-1 (2.65 g, 6.36 mmol) in MeOH (150 mL) at 0° was treated with NaBH4 (0.264 g, 6.99 mmol). The ice bath was removed and the solution was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr. The reaction was quenched with water (25 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (3×125 mL). The organics were combined, dried (Na2SO4), concentrated in vacuo, and purified on silica gel (90:5:5 CHCl3:EtOAc:MeOH) to afford 2.35 g of 16-4.
