5-(3-chlorophenyl)-7-[(4-chlorophenyl)hydroxy(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)methyl]-1,3-dihydro-1-methyl-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one (see Example B8) (0.0075 mol) was added portionwise at 5° C. to thionyl chloride (40 ml). The mixture was stirred at 5° C. for 6 hours. The solvent was evaporated till dryness. The product was used without further purification, yielding 7-[chloro(4-chlorophenyl)(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)methyl]-5-(3-chlorophenyl)-1,3dihydro-1-methyl-2H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one.
