26.3 g (94 mmol) of 6-Chloro-1-cyclohexyl-2,3(1H,4H)-quinoxalinedione were dissolved in 275 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid and then, at 0° C., 9.5 g (94 mmol) of potassium nitrate were added a little at a time. The mixture was then stirred at 0° C. for 30 min and at 25° C. for 2 h and poured into ice-water. The precipitate was filtered off with suction to yield 29.5 g (97%) of the product. Melting point>300° C.
