Procedure
2-(3-Chlorobenzoyl)-3-carboxypyridine was dissolved in a solution of 10% methanol and methylene chloride. Diazomethane was added and the solution was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. The solution was extracted with methylene chloride followed by methylene chloride +1% methanol The desired product was combined from recrystallization (ethyl ether/hexane) and from the filtrate to yield 1.23 g of 2-(3-chlorobenzoyl)-3-methoxycarbonyl-pyridine.
