4-Piperidinylacetic acid (4 grams) (28.0 mmoles) from Preparative Example 17A was dissolved in water (50 ml) and 37% formalin (2.72 ml) (33.6 mmoles) was added. The mixture was hydrogenated over 10% Pd-C at 55psi at 25° C. for 68 hours. The catalyst was filtered off and washed with water. The combined filtrates were evaporated to dryness to give the title compound (MH+ 158).
