A suspension of (S)-9-chloro-5-[p-aminomethyl-o-(3,3-dicarboxypropyl)phenylcarbamoylmethyl]-6,7-dihydro-1H, 5H-pyrido[1,2,3-de]quinoxaline-2,3-dione hydrochloride (550 mg, 0.98 mmol) in acetic acid (300 mL) was refluxed for 5 h. To the mixture was added 0.5N hydrochloric acid and the solvent was removed in vacuo. The residual solid was recrystallized from water to give 450 mg of the title compound (89%).
