Reaction Steps
A solution of hydrogen chloride in ethanol (23%, 0.172 g) was added dropwise at room temperature to a suspension of ethyl 6,7-dimethoxy-4-(3-isopropoxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)quinoline-3-carboxylate (0.5 g) in ethanol (10 ml)-dichloromethane (2 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 15 minutes and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was treated with isopropyl ether, and the solid was collected by filtration and recrystallized from ethanol to give ethyl 6,7-dimethoxy-4-(3-isopropoxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)quinoline-3-carboxylate hydrochloride (0.211 g, 39%). Yellow crystals. mp. 93°-95° C.
