Procedure

To a mixture of 2.2 g of 7-[(dimethyl-amino)methylene]-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-4-(2-chloro-4-nitrobenzoyl)-8H-thieno[3,2-b]azepine in 40 ml of ethanol is added 341 μl of hydrazine followed by heating at 60° C. for 1.5 hours. The volatiles are evaporated in vacuo to a residue which is dissolved in 100 ml of ethyl acetate and filtered through a pad of hydrous magnesium silicate. The filtrate is evaporated in vacuo to give 1.85 g of the desired product as a yellow-orange solid.
