Procedure

A mixture of 4.90 g of methyl 4-[[2-(phenyl-methyl)benzoyl]amino]benzoate in 100 ml of absolute ethanol and 3.50 ml of 10N sodium hydroxide is heated on a steam bath for 3 hours. The aqueous phase is filtered and the resulting solid collected and dried to give 4.25 g of the desired product m.p. 340°-346° C.
