Reaction Steps

A mixture of acetic acid 8-acetylamino-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-2-yl ester (2.2 g, 8.9 mmol) and bromine (1.7 g, 10.7 mmol) in 50 mL of acetic acid was stirred at room temperature for 18 h. The solvent was removed by rotoevaporation, and the residue was taken up in an diethyl ether/water mixture. The resulting solid was collected by filtration, and washed with diethyl ether. After drying the product (2.75 g) was obtained in 95% yield.
