reacting 2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethanol with the methyl isopropyl carbonate formed in step i) in the presence of a transesterification catalyst to form isopropyl 2-dimethylaminoethyl carbonate and methanol, under such conditions that the 2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethanol also reacts with the di-isopropyl carbonate formed in step i) to form more isopropyl 2-dimethylaminoethyl carbonate,
