Procedure
The sulfide (1.05 g, 3 mmol) in dichloromethane (100 mL) was treated with sulfuryl chloride (0.66 g, 5 mmol) and stirred for 2 hr. The resulting yellow solution was diluted with MDC (100 mL), washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution, dried and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (33% MDC in hexanes) to give 0.66 g (81%) of 2-chloromethyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-4,7-methano-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one 1,1-dioxide.
