Diacetylguanine (3 g) was refluxed in a mixture of water (5 ml) and methanol (50 ml) for 4 hours. The solvents were then removed under reduced pressure, the residue washed with cold methanol, and dried under vacuum, to give N-acetylguanine, a compound of Formula (1a).
