Reaction Steps

A reaction mixture containing thiazolo[3,2-b]isoquinolinium perchlorate (2.4 g; 8.4 mmol) and 1,1-di-[(1-p-methoxybenzyl)-pyrazol-3-yl)ethylene (4 g; 0.01 mol) in 125 ml of ethanol and 25 ml of acetonitrile was refluxed for 12 h under nitrogen. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, the solid product was filtered, washed with ether, and dried in vacuo to afford 4.65 g (81.6%) of 11,11-di-[(1-p-methoxybenzyl)-pyrazol-3-yl)]-5,10-ethano-5,10-dihydrothiazolo[3,2-b]isoquinolinium perchlorate (Formula I: A=thiazolo;R1 =R2 =R3 =R6 =H;R4 =R5 =1-p-methoxybenzyl-3-pyrazolyl;X- =ClO4-).
