Procedure
A mixture of 80% phenol (208.3 parts), 38.3% formalin (222.2 parts), and zinc acetate (19.4 parts) is heated under reflux for 21/2 hours, then allowed to cool. The mixture is separated into two layers and the aqueous layer is removed, leaving a phenol formaldehyde resole having a viscosity at 25° C. of 0.4 Pa s.
